These Terms & Conditions apply to bookings for Chapters Away reading retreats. Please read them carefully before making a booking.
By completing a booking, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
Chapters Away organises reading retreats in Ireland, offering guests an opportunity to read, relax and connect with other book lovers.

You must be aged 18 or over to make a booking and attend a Chapters Away retreat unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular retreat.
If you make a booking on behalf of another person, you are responsible for ensuring that they have read and agreed to these Terms & Conditions.
Places at Chapters Away retreats are limited and subject to availability.
Your booking is confirmed once:
You are responsible for ensuring that all information provided during the booking process is complete and accurate.
A booking is for the retreat and dates specified in your booking confirmation and cannot automatically be transferred to another Chapters Away retreat.
The total price of the retreat and the services included will be displayed before you complete your booking.
Payment must be made using one of the payment methods available at checkout.
Where a third-party payment provider or instalment service is used, additional terms and conditions imposed by that provider may apply to the payment arrangement.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, personal expenses and any goods or services not listed as included in the retreat price are not included.
Your booking includes the accommodation, meals, activities and experiences specifically stated on the relevant retreat booking page.
The itinerary provided before the retreat is intended as a guide. We may make reasonable changes to timings, activities, menus or the order of events where necessary.
Authors, chefs, facilitators and other third-party suppliers may occasionally become unavailable due to circumstances outside our reasonable control. Where this occurs, we will make reasonable efforts to provide a suitable alternative where appropriate.
A reasonable change to the itinerary or substitution of a supplier will not automatically entitle a guest to cancel their booking or receive a refund. This does not affect your statutory rights where a change materially affects the service you purchased.
Because Chapters Away retreats involve a limited number of places and advance commitments for accommodation, catering and other services, bookings are non-refundable if you decide that you are unable to attend, except where you are otherwise entitled to a refund or other remedy under applicable law.
Under section 111 of the Consumer Rights Act 2022, the statutory cancellation or “cooling-off” right that normally applies to certain online contracts does not apply to contracts for accommodation (other than residential accommodation), catering or services relating to leisure activities where the contract provides for a specific date or period of performance.
As Chapters Away retreats are provided on specified dates and include accommodation, catering and leisure services, there is no 14-day change-of-mind cooling-off period for retreat bookings.
This does not affect any statutory rights you may have where Chapters Away does not provide the contracted services or where you are otherwise legally entitled to a remedy.
We strongly recommend that you consider suitable travel insurance that provides appropriate cancellation cover for circumstances such as illness, emergencies or other unforeseen events that may prevent you from attending.
If you are unable to attend the retreat, you may request to transfer your place to another person.
You must contact Chapters Away at chaptersaway@yahoo.com before making the transfer and provide the replacement guest's required booking information.
The replacement guest must:
A transfer is not complete until it has been acknowledged by Chapters Away.
Any private payment or reimbursement between you and the replacement guest is your responsibility.
A transfer to another person does not mean that your booking can be transferred to a future Chapters Away retreat. Transfers to a different retreat or date are at the discretion of Chapters Away.
In the unlikely event that Chapters Away has to cancel a retreat, we will contact affected guests as soon as reasonably possible.
Where Chapters Away cancels the retreat and is unable to provide the contracted retreat or an alternative accepted by you, you will be entitled to an appropriate refund of payments made to Chapters Away in accordance with your statutory rights.
Chapters Away is not responsible for separate expenses you have arranged independently, such as transport or additional accommodation, except where liability for those losses arises under applicable law.
For this reason, guests are encouraged to consider appropriate travel insurance.
Occasionally, circumstances outside our reasonable control may prevent or significantly affect the delivery of a retreat.
These may include severe weather, natural disasters, government restrictions, public health emergencies, significant transport disruption, utility failures or the unexpected unavailability of a venue due to circumstances outside our control.
Where this happens, we will contact affected guests as soon as reasonably possible and take reasonable steps to minimise the impact and, where appropriate, arrange an alternative.
Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Accommodation arrangements, including whether rooms are shared or private, will be described during the booking process.
Guests must respect the accommodation, its contents and surrounding property and comply with reasonable house rules communicated by Chapters Away or the accommodation provider.
Guests may be held responsible for the reasonable cost of repairing or replacing property damaged deliberately or negligently by them.
We aim to accommodate reasonable dietary requirements where possible.
You must provide details of allergies, intolerances or dietary requirements when requested before the retreat and inform us promptly if that information changes.
Relevant dietary information may need to be shared with the chef, caterer or other food-service providers so that they can prepare appropriate meals.
While reasonable care will be taken, we cannot guarantee an entirely allergen-free environment.
If you have a severe or potentially life-threatening allergy, please contact us at chaptersaway@yahoo.com before booking so that we can discuss whether your requirements can safely and reasonably be accommodated.
If you have accessibility requirements or other requirements that could affect your ability to participate in the retreat, please contact us before booking.
We will make reasonable efforts to provide relevant information about the venue and retreat and to accommodate reasonable requirements where possible.
Chapters Away aims to provide a welcoming, comfortable and respectful environment for everyone attending.
Guests are expected to behave respectfully towards other guests, staff, suppliers and the property.
We reserve the right to require a guest to leave the retreat where their behaviour is seriously disruptive, threatening, abusive or unsafe, or where they deliberately or negligently cause significant damage to the venue.
Where a guest is required to leave because of their own serious misconduct, they will not normally be entitled to a refund and will be responsible for their own onward travel and related costs.
Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.
Alcohol may be available during certain parts of the retreat.
Guests who choose to consume alcohol are responsible for doing so responsibly.
We reserve the right to refuse to provide alcohol to a guest where we reasonably consider this necessary for safety or welfare reasons.
Guests are responsible for taking reasonable care of their personal belongings during the retreat.
Chapters Away will not be responsible for loss of or damage to personal belongings unless that loss or damage results from something for which Chapters Away is legally responsible.
Guests may wish to ensure that valuable belongings are appropriately covered by their own insurance.
Unless specifically stated as included in your booking, transportation to and from the retreat is your responsibility.
Please allow sufficient time to arrive at the retreat at the advised arrival time.
If you are delayed or unable to attend because of your own travel arrangements or transport disruption, the standard cancellation policy will apply, subject always to your statutory rights.
Photographs and videos may be taken during Chapters Away retreats for promotional purposes, including use on our website and social media.
Where an identifiable guest is the subject of promotional photography or video, appropriate consent will be sought.
You may tell us that you do not wish to appear in promotional photographs or videos.
Guests are also expected to respect the privacy and preferences of other attendees when taking or sharing their own photographs or videos.
Some elements of a Chapters Away retreat may be provided by independent third parties, such as accommodation providers, chefs, caterers, authors, facilitators or activity providers.
We will take reasonable care when selecting and arranging suppliers.
Third-party services may also be subject to reasonable rules or requirements imposed by the relevant supplier.
Nothing in this section excludes or limits any responsibility that Chapters Away has to you under applicable consumer law.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Chapters Away will provide its services with the standard of care and skill required under applicable Irish consumer law.
Guests remain responsible for their own actions and for following reasonable safety instructions provided during the retreat.
To the extent permitted by law, Chapters Away is not responsible for losses that are not reasonably foreseeable consequences of a breach of our obligations.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Personal information collected in connection with your booking will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Irish and EU data protection law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Information concerning allergies, dietary requirements or other health-related needs may receive additional protection under data protection law.
Where reasonably necessary to provide the retreat, relevant information may be shared with appropriate service providers, such as the chef, caterer or accommodation provider, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
We make reasonable efforts to ensure information on the Chapters Away website is accurate and up to date.
Photographs are provided to give an indication of the accommodation and retreat experience. Minor details such as décor, menus, schedules or individual activities may differ from photographs or preliminary descriptions.
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The Terms & Conditions applicable to your booking will generally be those provided to you when you make your booking.
We will not retrospectively make a material change to the terms of an existing booking without your agreement where your agreement is required by law.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict or otherwise affect rights available to consumers under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 or other applicable Irish or European Union consumer protection legislation.
These Terms & Conditions are governed by Irish law.
Any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Irish courts, subject to any mandatory consumer rights regarding jurisdiction that may apply.
